Live Edge Moss Wall Art
| September 2024 |
I came across moss wall art while browsing on Pinterest and thought it would be neat to give it a shot. I found the Maple and Walnut live edge pieces at WoodCraft when sourcing wood for another project and decided to start this project.
The first step was to remove all the bark from the pieces. I used a mix of a flat head screwdriver with a mallet and an angle grinder to get down to raw wood. To create the river, I cut the pieces lengthwise with a track saw.
The frame is made from Maple I dyed black using three coats of Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Ink that I mixed with water and applied with a brush. The back of the frame is 1/8" pressboard that slots into a dado cut on the Maple Frame.
I sanded all the pieces to 120 grit and applied one coat of Tried and True. The preserved moss is from a variety pack I purchased from Amazon, and I secured it to the pressboard using hot glue, mixing the colors of the moss to create a more natural aesthetic.
