Pallet Wood Corner Table
| November 2022 |
This corner table is 30" tall and 22" x 22" wide and is made entirely from old wood pallets. The pallets were cut using a jigsaw and Sawzall and then milled to a standard thickness of 5/16" on a planer and jointer.
Each layer of the table is made up of a triangular frame with 5 slats running across to the top. The frame and the legs are both made using 2 layers of pallet wood that were laminated together in a staggered pattern to ensure no two glue seams overlapped. For the frame, the pieces were cut to a 37.5° angle using a jig I created for the table saw. The longer slats had to be made from multiple pieces of pallet wood that were connected using a scarf joint and reinforced on the underside with a bowtie. The inset for the bowtie was cut using a plunge router and custom jig, and the bowties themselves were laser cut using 1/4" pallet wood.
The legs are connected to the frames using 1/4" - 20 bolts that screw into threaded inserts in the frames. I laser cut adhesive backed velvet that I attached to the bottom of legs.
For finish, I used a water based semi-gloss polyurethane in a HVLP spray gun. I finished the sides of the slats first before gluing the slats to the frame to ensure the sides of the slats had a full coat of finish.
