TechSpark Hanging Sign

| August 2021 |

These two signs serve as wayfinding tools to clearly convey entrances and exits to the TechSpark Makerspace at CMU. They are designed to hang from a ceiling mount via eyebolts.

One sign is 14" x 60" and hangs at the main entrance to the makerspace. The other sign is smaller at 12" x 40" and hangs in the hallway at the secondary entrance to TechSpark.  The larger sign frame is made from a 2" x 6" pine board, and the smaller one is made from scrap 3/4" plywood. Both frames were made with mitered corners and a 3/16” dado slot cut on both sides for the acrylic sign to slide into. The background of the sign is 1/8" white acrylic with 1/8" black and red acrylic for the TechSpark logo. A laser cut paper template was used for letter alignment on the white acrylic back.

Each sign is illuminated from the inside with LED replacements for fluorescent tubes. The larger sign has four 48" LED tubes, and the smaller one has two 36" LED tubes. Eyebolts, carabiners, steel hanging wire, and Unistrut were used to hang the signs from existing ceiling mounting points.
